When I joined the ERA Support project,

the discovery phase had just wrapped up. The mission was crystal clear: create a digital healthcare platform for behavioral and mental health services - three platforms, in fact: one for doctors, one for patients, and one for clinic managers.

When I joined the ERA Support project,

the discovery phase had just wrapped up. The mission was crystal clear: create a digital healthcare platform for behavioral and mental health services - three platforms, in fact: one for doctors, one for patients, and one for clinic managers.

The challenges stacked up quickly:
  • High-level requirements: the discovery phase provided only broad ideas, not detailed specs.

  • Time pressure: two months to deliver three interconnected platforms.

  • Healthcare complexity: accessibility standards, regulatory constraints, and sensitive user data added extra layers of responsibility.

And, of course, there was the usual tension: business goals vs. user needs vs. time.

The challenges stacked up quickly:

We decided to stay laser-focused on three things
  1. Designing fast, without losing clarity,

  2. Creating a consistent, scalable design system,

  3. Making the experience intuitive for all three user types.

We adopted a hypothesis-driven approach

Instead of waiting for perfect requirements, we iterated rapidly delivering wireframes, flows, and prototypes sprint by sprint.

To save time and costs, we built everything on top of Material UI, which but gave us consistency and speed.

  • System thinking: every component fed into the growing design system for long-term maintainability.
